Duston's Solution

For my area maximization problem I measured the one end of the computer power cord and I found the length to be 5ft, so what i did was I entered that into excel and I found the length to be 1.25 and the width to be 1.25 also. My total area came out to be 1.5625 SQ. FT.

I messured my headphones which had a length of 3 feet. The maximum area I could get with this length was 0.5625 square feet with a length and width of 0.75 feet.

Fencing

I used my IPod cord witch was 3 feet long when I used the spreadsheet my width was 0.75 and the length was o.75 as well. The maximum area is 0.5625 Square feet

Fencing Problem - Brittany's solution

I measured the internet connection cord. It was about 60 cm long. The maximum area is 225 cm. Each side of the perimeter fencing will be 15 cm.

Quon's Fencing

i used the mouse cord for my project and i measured it to about 57 inches the maximum area 203.0625 the width is 14.25 inches and the length is 14.25 inches

Fencing Question

I used the formula for area when I measured my head phones I got 35 cm of cord. So I took the formula y=((35-2x)/2)*x and plugged that into graph matica. When I found the vertex I got a width of 8.75 and a area of 76.56. The width and lengh are exactly the same too.

Solution to Maximization Problem

I used my keychain which is 20 cm in length. My width was 5.30 and my area was 25.

Colette's Solution

I measured my key chain it was around 2 feet so i rounded it to 2. My best solution to maximize the perimeter was 0.5 in width & 0.5 in length which it maximized to 0.25ft squared.

Hey so I have completed my assignment on "fencing" and this is what I have come up with.
By using the cord on the mouse I measured 5 feet. By using graphmatica and the formula my solution is 1.25 feet.

Maximizing Area Using a Quadratic Function

Accelerated Math ends on June 22,2011, this will be the last day you have to finish up any accelerated math.

Quadratic Functions

Today we talked about quadratic functions. We were told to find the definitions of the words, x-intercept, root of a quadratic function, solution of a quadratic, zero of a quadratic, and axis of symmetry of a quadratic.

Today we are looking at the Exercise 5: Linear Programming Problems hand out. Mr.Maks went through the question 1 and Mr. Maks helped us step up question 4 for us to try ourselves. We are to try any 2 of the questions from page D-10, which is questions 5-12. Mr.Maks will go through them in the next couple of days and sometime next week we will probably have a quiz on solving Linear Programming Problems

Linear Programming

Linear Programming

Today we have learned how to solve Linear inequalities on Graphmatica. These are the intructions we did in  class...

I personally learned the ways of entering and calculating the problems in Graphmatica.

Quiz Answers

Today we corrected the Quiz from the other day. We will be having another Quiz tomorrow which will be for marks. The reason we went over the quiz was to make sure that we know how to do it for the quiz tomorrow.

Who did Better

Who did better is asked a lot in classes when we get a test. Today we were shown how to really know who did better using z - scores I will put the lesson on to tis post for anyone who needs it.

invNORM

Today Mr.M is showing how to use invNORM. The whole point of this lesson is to give us the percentage of peolple the police academy will reject applications from. It turns out that anyone shorter than 65.44" can't be a police officer. The formula Mr.M used to get this answer is invNORM (0.15, mean, standard deviation) the 0.15 is the percentage of people who are excluded from the police department(100-85=15) Mr.M also wanted us to assume the mean in 67' and the standard deviation is 1.5', find the "cut-off" height? It is lower than 65.5 that is where the bottom 15 percent is on the chart.

I would like to do my report on teen drinking.

my math project will be on legalizing marijuana
How many teenagers are smoking today and does it differ from the past 30 years? Also how many people who started smoking as a teenager quit as adults?

I'm doing my project on how gum can help you do better on tests and the all the statistics that go with it
the southern flood. will it be as bad as the 1997 flood?

April 8

Frequency Polygons/ Histograms - " The Normal Distribution" Today Mr. Maksymchuk, showed us Math SATs from the look of a bar graph and all the statistics that go with it. He also showed us the outcomes of a true/false quiz if you were to just randomly guess through the whole thing. The website that he used for the SATs and random true and false was... http://www.seeingstatistics.com/

My project is going to be on how different genres of music affect the brain.
my project is on how did rap and hip-hop become so popular

For my project I'm going to do something on the fibonacci code.

Project

For My project I am planing on doing something about the F1 cars races.

My Math Research Idea

I want to do my project on politics in Canada. My Thesis Statement is...how does a three party system affect the chances of a majority government in Canada?

Research Project

My idea for the essay is...Do sports make you smarter?

Measures of central tendency

Today, Mr Maksymchuk taught us how to do statistics meaning how to figure out the range, mean, median, and mode and he also taught us how to put lists into our calculator and also Mr. Maksymchuk is going to be away tommorow and he expects us to watch the video lesson on standard deviation. Make sure to bring headphones.

Project

My idea is the whole ticket price of all the seats at a basketball game.

my topic will be how much population was there for welders 15 years ago in manitoba

Math Project

I would like to make my math project on Nursing even though I don't quite know what my thesis is just yet.

Research Project

We will be starting a research project soon, you will have to choose something to do your project on that involves math. You will have to research and publish it on your own blog page. You could also make a power point or use prezi(http://www.prezi.com/), you can also write an essay, or make a video. You must make a thesis (YOUR TOPIC, written as a question or argument). You must do all the achievment indicators completed. These include:

1. collect data 2. assess data

3. interpret data

4. identify controversy and present data with support

5. organize and present project with technology

Deadlines:

1. Friday, April 8 - Topic must be choosen

-first come, first serve

-post on class blog when you choose

2. Monday, April 18 - Interim Progress Report #1

3.Friday, April 29 - Interim Progress Report #2

4. Monday, May 9 - Project Completion

-done/finished
